Dear Parents,
This will be the last blog/e-mail that I send out for this awesome group of children and parents. It has been quite a wonderful adventure, one I have thoroughly enjoyed. This week is a week of tying up loose ends and celebrations, fun, and of course learning.

We had a great time at the park on Friday. It was great having help from Mary, Sarah, Kristin, Rachel and Janie. Thanks to the Bettencourts for the pizza, and the Jefferys, Turpies, McBrides and Sanchez family for the goodies they sent/brought. The fruit sculpture that Michael McBride made was absolutely incredible, a tasty work of art!

Yearbooks will be handed out either Tuesday or Thursday. Our flag raising ceremony for the Distinguished School award will be on Tuesday. Please have your child wear a Rio del Mar sweatshirt or shirt that day. I will be sending out an e-mail regarding the drivers for our Wednesday field trip on Monday, Tuesday at the latest. Friday dismissal time is at 10:50 and Wednesday is a full day.

It’s nice to see clearer skies here in Watsonville and know people are settling back into their houses in Corralitos. The air quality in Watsonville was quite bad on Thursday, which prompted the closing of PVUSD schools. Hope the extra day was a gift to your family, I sure was happy about it. Open House was a successful event with all families in attendance. The first graders took their jobs as tour guides very seriously and did a thorough job, I must say.

This week, on Friday, we will be going to the park by the school to eat our lunches and play. A few parents have expressed a desire to bring treats to celebrate their child’s birthday and I thought that this would be a good time to do this. Parents may send in food to share and if a few people wanted to get together, we could even have pizza. I haven’t told the children yet, and will not be telling them we will be having extra food until closer to the time. Please do not feel you need to send in anything, as we are also fine with lunches from home and school. So far I know we will have kettle corn and lemonade. Come join us (11:00-11:45-or later) and it is fine with me if younger siblings come.

We truly are at the end of the year with projects to finish, many letters to write, classes to visit, many other fun tasks and of course, we will continue the academics. Don’t forget library books need to be turned in or paid for and field trip forms and money need to be turned in. Our end of the year field trip is on Wednesday, June 4. Please remember that Friday, the last day of school, is a short day.
